Extension springs operate alongside the horizontal tracks rather than on a shaft above the door. If one breaks or stretches unevenly, the door can tilt or become difficult to move. Describe the visible damage from a safe distance and leave the door unused until the assembly is assessed.
Review the complete spring arrangement
The repair assessment includes the extension springs and the components that transfer their force to the door. Worn pulleys, a damaged cable or missing containment hardware should be discussed as part of the proposed work, not discovered after a spring has been ordered.
Containment cables serve a different purpose
A safety cable through an extension spring helps contain it if it breaks. That cable is different from the lifting cable that moves the door. Replacing one does not automatically repair a defect in the other. Ask the technician to identify both in the estimate.
Keep a replacement and a conversion separate
