Match the seal to its retainer
Bottom seals come in different profiles and fit into different retainers. Selecting by width or color alone may not produce a suitable fit. The condition of the retainer and lower door section also affects whether a straightforward seal replacement is appropriate.
Check how the door meets the opening
A gap may reflect a worn seal, an uneven surface or a door that is not reaching its intended closed position. Perimeter trim also needs to allow normal movement. A thicker seal is not automatically the answer to a positioning or drainage problem.
Understand the limits of weather sealing
Seals help reduce ordinary gaps; they do not make a garage floodproof or turn an unconditioned room into conditioned space. Water flowing toward the opening can involve drainage or ground-level issues beyond the door. We explain what the proposed door work can reasonably address.

Will a new seal stop all water entering the garage?
No. The source and volume of water, surface levels and drainage all matter. Door sealing is only one part of that assessment.
Can the top and side seals be replaced too?
